11 Best Things to See in Ireland

Some people ask where are the best things to see in Ireland, we recommend to head out west to explore the west coast there is plenty on the East coast but many tourists think West is best, near the major tourist monuments and areas listed you can find what we believe to be some of the best parts of Ireland, Donegal, Kerry, Galway, Cork, Mayo and Clare are our favourites.


The Cliffs of Moher

The Cliffs of Moher on the coast of County Clare, are one of the Ireland’s best known landmarks. Jaggedly facing the Atlantic, these yes were used as a protection against the Vikings. There is an ancient fort on the Cliffs as well, were entered into be one of the wonders of the world.

The Burren

The Burren in County Clare seems like an alien landscape, miles and miles of limestone make up this bizarre terrain, there are some unique plants that grow with that do not grow in any other place in the world. There are also ancient Dolmens doffing landscape.

Blarney Castle and Blarney Stone

Visiting Blarney Castle and Blarney Stone is also a must for travelers to Arlington it is possibly the most famous castle in Ireland located in County Cork. The castle was the stronghold of the McCarthy clan, the console is famous for its 18 foot thick walls.

Also while at the castle you can kiss the Blarney Stone, it is said once you kiss the stone you get the gift of the gab and get the ability to talk your way out of any situation.

Connemara Countryside

Connemara countryside one of Ireland’s 5 national parks this area is great for walks and relaxing experience, there are many quaint pubs were you can come across many friendly locals.

Lakes of Killarney

Lakes of Killarney located in County Kerry and makes one of the most great scenic views in Europe, mountains surround these three beautiful lakes, close to the town of Killarney, it is considered on of the most beautiful areas in Ireland with lots of small islands within the lakes, there is a Castle on the eastern shore.

Three Lakes and the mountains are within Killarney national Park, we do recommend to visit Muckross house. Queen Victoria explored this beautiful house back in 1861, you can see the splendor which brought her to the location.

The Dingle Peninsula and the Blasket Islands

The Blasket Islands are magnificent red sand stone rocky islands.  Once a home to some of Ireland’s greatest writers especially in the 1920s and 1930s, after the population kindling to 22 people in 1953 became abandoned, the islands are now designated historic Park where you can see the old Irish cottages in a magnificent setting.

The Dingle Peninsula is famous for its friendly locals and refreshing scenery, this beautiful town has some great pubs where you can relax and enjoy a pint of Guinness.  Dingle town has some great lively Irish music.

Wicklow is called the Garden of Ireland, The Powerscourt Gardens in County Wicklow, these gardens are must see for garden lovers.

Newgrange in County Meath

Newgrange in County Meath is an ancient tomb that is older the Pyramids of Egypt.  This magnificent tomb only allows light in one day a year, the winter solstice.

Giants Causeway

Giants Causeway in County Antrim, Northern Ireland a group of rocks in a polygonal shape, the rocks look like steps and its truly unique.  Legend has it that the giant Fionn MacCuhail placed these rocks to cross the sea to get to his wife in Scotland. I have also written an article a few days ago in relation to the best attractions in Northern ireland.

There are plenty of beautiful towns to see in Ireland, it is recommend to see the towns of Kenmare, Kinsale and Dingle, the west of Ireland has a high concentration of scenic drives, breathtaking landscape and friendly locals, Cork, Kerry Clare Galway, Mayo and Donegal are highly recommended, on the east coast Malahide, Carlingford and Dalkey are some notable towns.
