Main Patrick’s Day Events
O.K first off the festival, no matter where you are in Ireland, Cork, Dublin, Limerick, Belfast, Waterford, Galway, there is a festival or something to do on Patrick’s day besides the main parade, not just in Dublin City.
So what is there to do?
An alternative is the Saint Patrick’s will walking event, walking in the scenic Glenmalure, everybody is welcome including beginners of course.
At the national concert hall in Dublin, Sean Kean and the Irish Scattering will give you a good taste of traditional Irish music, dance and some great Irish readings. There is an admission cost though of between 18 and 35 euro, perfect for you Paddy’s day on the 17th of March of course at 8pm.
You won’t be bored in Dublin on Paddy’s day, there are lots of Irish around from pub to pub the crowds circulate , the day is filled with fun, drink, song and dance, you can soak up the lively atmosphere throughout the city, the Temple bar area is on of the liveliest areas in the city for pubs, discos and good old Irish craic ( means fun in Irish Gaelic). There are other alternative events such as
The Photographic exhibition by European works of 6 cities, this started on the 11th of march and runs through the 21st of March, you can see some fantastic photos from the following cities Malmo,Turin Dublin,Belgrade Lodz and Timisora.
The Giant Blue Hand is a great event for children, child playwright Marina Carr, recommended ages for 7 years up. This is on at 2 and 4pm on march the 17th.
The Smithfiled market holds a play on the regeneration of the inner city area, this runs from the 11th to the 21st and starts at 8pm.
