The history if the Irish flag symbolizes the brotherhood and union of various social aspects of a common nationality. It was Thomas Francis Meagher who conceptualized the tricolor appearance of the flag that would stand for Ireland. He brought a tricolor flag made of silk with the colors orange, white and green from Paris and presented it to a Dublin meeting. From March of that year Irish tricolors appeared side by side with French ones at gatherings held all over the Irish country to celebrate the reform that had just then taken place in the French soil.
Meaning Of the Irish Flag
The Irish flag according to various scholars do not have any official meaning. On the other hand, legends have appeared to account for the colors chosen to be included in the flag. The colors orange, white and green all represents the Irish people who were either Catholics or Protestants. The color white in between this two contrasting color is associated with the peace between the two.
Orange Stand for Irish Protestants
Northern Irish Protestants are called Orange People due to the fact that it is associated with William of Orange (William III), the King of England, Scotland, and Ireland who in 1690 defeated the ousted King James II, a Roman Catholic, in the momentous Battle of the Boyne near Dublin.
Green for the Irish Catholic Nationalists
Green is the color which stands for the Irish Catholic nationalists which is related to do with shamrocks and green landscapes, but more importantly, green symbolizes upheaval.
White for Heroic Brotherhood
The white color in the Irish flag was included in a patriotic goal to unite the Northern Irish Protestants and the Irish Catholic Nationalists despite their differences in religious belief. The color symbolizes the vision for heroic brotherhood among Irish people.
