- Irish air is fresh: While Ireland is not close to the warmest countries in Europe with July and August temperatures not exceeding over 22 degrees Celsius for more than a few days a month, it’s a great place to cool down, do exercise with some beautiful drives, walks, such as Carlingford Lough, West Cork Wicklow Mountains, I strongly recommend visiting Dingle in Kerry and the Aran Islands off the coast of Galway and Clare, Irelands cities have very clean air, but to the West of Ireland, Ireland claims the title of the cleanest air in the world. It’s so fresh and good for your lungs, where else on the earth can you experience this, answer nowhere!
Ireland has great wholesome food, o.k. I have to admit Irish cuisine is quite limited compared to the gastronomic delights of France, Italy or Spain, Ireland does lack the diversity of local dishes, but there is an ample variety of International restaurants and most cities and towns have a large selection of food, most towns over 20,000 people both have an Italian restaurant and a Chinese restaurant, to start with. O.K you may ask about the local dishes then, Irish stew is definitely recommended, is made from Lamb, beef or mutton, the more fattier the more flavour, also vegetables include potatoes, onions and parsley, Irish stew is composed more of Irish beef than lamb due to the increase of prices of lamb and mutton, in recent years Irish stout have been added to the dish, such as Ireland’s beloved Guinness. Other really great food to try in Ireland is Irish Smoked Salmon, the Irish really know how to prepare good smoked salmon, there is ample opportunity to buy this, as in Dublin airport, and there is a Wrights of Howth shop. Infamous Galway bay Oysters washed down with a pint of stout, are just some of the great Irish Culinary delights to try. Also try the great Irish breakfast, actually there are 2 types of Irish breakfast, one in Northern Ireland and one in the Republic of Ireland.(Picture of Galway bay Oysters to the right)- People are very friendly, I read that Irish people are the friendliest people in the world, I have travelled far and wide, and now I believe Irish people are extremely friendly, always helpful and always have time to give directions.
Ireland is beautiful: You won’t be short of places to visit in this tiny Island, there some truly unique features such as the Giants Causeway in county Antrim , the landscape is alien, and this scenery was seen vividly in the action comedy hellboy 2. Also notable areas to visit are the Cliffs of Moher (Picture of Cliffs of Moher to the left), the cliffs are breathtaking, there is also an ancient fort perched on these cliffs, truly an amazing place to see, these two places are must see attractions in Ireland ( also around these locations there is plenty to see! All over Ireland there is plenty of fantastic places to see, for example 15 minutes away from the centre of Dublin you can be in beautiful Malahide, which has scenic walks, a great castle to view, other towns around Dublin include (30 minutes trains ride) Skerries and (20 minutes train ride) Howth both 2 small fishing towns, with plenty of character.- Easy to get too: Ireland has a great deal of options to get too, Ryanair the leader of Budget airlines in Europe was started in Ireland, there are plenty of routes connecting Ireland with the rest of Europe, Airlines that service Ireland most frequently are Aer Lingus and Ryanair. I have also included a list of airlines that fly to Ireland; Aer Lingus also service the USA.
- Beer and pubs are great: When in Ireland you have to try the Irish Guinness, they say in Ireland that the Guinness there is the best in the world. Irish pubs are also a great place to socialize, they have been exported internationally over the last ten years but it’s true to say that the pubs in Ireland are the best Irish pubs in the world. By the way you got to try Irish Coffee, Irish coffee is made of Coffee, Whiskey, sugar topped with Irish Cream, of course you can make it with any cream, but Irish dairy products taste great! In recent times there have also been some creative substitutes such as Baileys coffee, Baileys is another tasty Irish drink to try if you haven’t. The nightlife is great too; some say Dublin is the nightlife capital of Europe.
Festivals: Ireland has some great summer festivals such as the Puc fair, also if there is one festival that you must go to; it’s the Saint Patrick’s Day festival. Which is celebrated all over the Island of Ireland, Saint Patrick is the patron saint of Ireland, it is said he banished snakes from Ireland ( Another explanation could be the Glacial melt stopped the spread of snakes to Ireland, during the end of the last ice age). The main parade is in Dublin, but there are numerous parades scattered throughout Ireland. Some are very small and can last just 15 minutes, but it’s fair to say that Dublin has the must see parade of all the Saint Patrick day festivals in Ireland.(Picture of Saint Patrick to the left)- Convenience; Ireland is what I call a convenient nation, shops are open 7 days a week, restaurants are open too, there is no closing for lunch, only in the smallest of towns shops may close for lunch, also the banks are open 5 days a week, some open on a Saturday but that’s the exception to the rule rather than the norm. Banks usually open from 10 till 4pm and may be open later on certain days particularly on a Thursday, also shops across Ireland have their late opening night on a Thursday too, and In Dublin, Cork and Galway however there are later opening hours for the major shops.
Sports: Ireland has the highest golf course per capita in Europe, not only that it has some of the best golf courses in the world too, my friend told me 2 are in the top 10 of some sort, Portmarnock golf course in Portmarnock, Dublin and the Island Golf Course near Donabate, I think the Island is in the top 10 links courses in the world. One thing I seriously recommend is to watch the traditional Irish sports Gaelic football (Picture of Gaelic football to the left) and hurling, played with such fiery passion, every county in Ireland, Ireland has 32 county regions has a county team, there is a great atmosphere at these matches, before and after match the pub is the order of the day, I recommend to see a match in Dublin Croke park, which is one of the largest sports stadiums in Europe, the atmosphere is electric during the main matches.- Ireland’s rich heritage and history: Ireland has a rich heritage for you history lovers, the book of Kells in Trinity College, the best preserved manuscript from early Christian times in Ireland is a be
autiful religious book which is painted and decorated eloquently. Other great places to visit, Newgrange a tomb that was built before the Egyptian Pyramids. The museums are the best place to see the large variety of Celtic artwork and unique Celtic history. ( Picture from the Book of Kells to the right)
I am sure I could list 100′s of more reasons to visit Ireland but this gives you a good feel of some of Ireland’s delights.
